Murderers’ favorite weapon has appeared to be the semi automatic rifle “AR 15”. AR 15 has a fairly fast fire rate and for some extent has been categorized more as an assault weapon rather than as a defensive weapon. Because of this reason, we tend to believe that regulation on this weapon is a potential threat for its manufactures; however, because US has experienced a strong influence from NRA, any criticism, or action towards new regulation on gun controls has been systematically dodged by the parliament. Therefore, we would expect the congress to step in recognizing the negative externality and taking action toward a potential restriction in the market of firearms. Without delving into the ethical debate of gun controls, we believe that at least new mass shootings could potentially dampen the price of gun manufacturers or at least create more volatility in the market. In our paper we believe that because of this strong grip of the NRA on US congress any new mass shooting will not affect the stock price of rifle manufacturers due to their extensive power as lobbies.
