Creating a classroom “Newsfeed”
Discussion Guidelines
200 – 250 words in length (1 page), and follow the details below
Objective – The goal of this discussion, rather than debating some social controversy, is to create a newsfeed of important local, state, national and international issues
Your assignment is to look through news media and post a “current event” summary of newsworthy political item.
Each week is packed with issues of interest, from the Earthquake in Japan and subsequent nuclear crisis to the current threat in Libya to the Wisconsin state legislature controversial legislation regarding unions last to current debates over a proposed balanced budget amendment to the current state of affairs in the middle east, there are hundreds of issues that impact our world
You can chose National, State, or Local News (avoid sports and entertainment stories – unless you can tie to a political or social issue e.g.. Labor Strike by NFL players etc).
Using the internet, find a current government/politics related article from a newspaper, magazine or reliable web site. Read the article and summarize in your own words, what the article was about. You should begin by summarizing the article and then explain the significance of the issue and why we should be informed/concerned about the topic. When summarizing the news item, please include a link to the original item at the bottom of the post so the class can easily refer to it.
