Third person please. I have attached the book pages that the critique is on. Please let me know if you need anything. he goal of this assignment is to help you understand and evaluate an argument – regardless of whether or not you agree with it. As a result, you should improve your ability to read and think critically. And, by being better able to describe and evaluate the argumentative strategies of other writers, you should be able to construct your own argumentative research paper. You need to evaluate how an author presents his/her argument. That is, you will convince a group of readers that the text either is or is not argued effectively as a whole. You may assume your readers have read the text. Since 102 focuses more on critical thinking skills, not the ability to persuade by means of emotional appeals, your critique should address the logic of the essay’s arguments. However, you may examine an author’s use of emotional appeals. Additionally, avoid praising an essay simply because it seems effective in manipulating an audience by drawing on their ignorance, biases, or fears. Finally, do not criticize an essay simply because you disagree with the author’s morals. For this critique pick one of the two major arguments Gardner makes in Chapter 9 and then analyze, evaluate, and react to it in a formal critique. The sections you may choose are Child Abductions (182-189) or School Safety (209-the paragraph that ends at the top of 214). Your final draft should be about 700 to 900 words in length (2 ½ to 3 pages), double-spaced. General Assessment Guidelines: Your critique will be graded on how well you identify and summarize Levitt and Dubner’s “thesis” and purpose for writing the section and how well you argue the merits of the argument. You will also be graded on the quality of your writing and the proper use of MLA citation and formatting. Remember to include a Works Cited page.
