Assignment: Landscapes and Landforms

Topic: Landscapes and Landforms     Task 2a
Due Date: Term 2, Week 6Monday 4 June 2018
Marks 25                                              Weighting 25%

The Task

You are to investigate and report on a geomorphic hazard that has an effecton environmental landscapes and landforms.

For your investigation and report, choose from one of the following geomorphic hazards:

  • Earthquakes
  • Volcanic Eruptions
  • Avalanches
  • Landslides
  • Tsunamis

Your report must be a minimum of 800 words and a maximum of 1,000 words.

The following are the compulsory elements you must address in your report:

  1. OutlineONE geomorphic hazard and explain the cause and effect of the geomorphic processes involved
  2. Identify and describe where the geomorphic hazard has occurred in the past or is occurring now, and label it on a world map
  3. Explain the impact of the geomorphic processes on the natural environment
  4. Examine the responses of individuals, groups and government to the impact of a geomorphic disaster
  5. Discuss the management strategies to reduce the future impact of geomorphic hazards, including the role of technology in monitoring and predicting events.

Your report needs to:

  • be 800 -1,000 words in length
  • include a variety of visual aids, such as
    • maps,
    • statistics,
    • tables,
    • graphs,
    • synoptic charts,
    • diagrams and/or pictures to demonstrate issues.
  • each source MUST have a description of what it shows, ie caption, legend, titles, etc.
  • you must reference each source in your report
  • include a bibliography listing the references you have used. (A guide on how to write a bibliography is attached).

Do NOT plagiarise your work, you are to submit your own work.

Outcomes

A student learns to:

  • GE4-2 describes processes and influences that form and transform places and environments
  • GE4-3 explains how interactions and connections between people, places and environments result in change
  • GE4-7 acquires and processes geographical information by selecting and using geographical tools for inquiry
  • GE4-8 communicates geographical information using a variety of strategies

Any task which is not submitted in accordance with the submission details listed above will be subject to a late penalty where 20% of the mark achieved will be subtracted for each day the task is late. Please note the weekend will count as TWO days. If the task is submitted more than five days late it will be awarded zero marks. Unless stated otherwise your task is due at the beginning of the lesson on the due date.
