1. Access the following systematic review through OU Library. Systematic reviews are
professional sources that synthesize available research on a topic and are often very
good sources to utilize when researching and writing about a clinical topic of interest.

2. Conduct an additional literature search using a library database (such as CINAHL)
to find other scholarly articles that address the questions you are assigned. It is essential
that you choose peer-reviewed journal articles. Online sites such as American
Pregnancy Association, professional blogs, babycenter.com, etc., do not meet the
criteria for scholarly articles. You should have a minimum of two professional
references cited in your paper (again, the assigned systematic review above counts as
one of the minimum requirements). See the grading rubric for how the number of
sources will earn your points on this assignment.
3. Write a two- to three-page, typed, double-spaced paper addressing the assigned
questions.
4. Correct APA formatting is a major objective of this assignment (25% of the grading
rubric). This may be new for many of you, so the focus for APA will be on in-text citations
and the reference list. It is essential that you use APA 6 formatting for both the reference
list and in-text citations. The best resource to utilize is the Publication Manual of the
American Psychological Association, sixth edition. The OWL Purdue APA website is also
usually a reliable resource to assist you with formatting. Since the focus is on in-text
citations and the reference page, a title page and abstract are not required for this
assignment.
All students are assigned the following four questions:
1. Briefly discuss why evidence-based practice is important in nursing.
2. Discuss what the evidence says about continuous labor support.
3. Identify another evidence-based practice issue related to antepartum, intrapartum, or
postpartum nursing care, and describe what the evidence says about this topic.
4. Finally, discuss maternal mortality statistics in Oklahoma and how these compare to
national and worldwide statistics (may use credible online website databases like CDC,
etc., to help address this question).
