Rationale
Effective verbal communication skills are an important part of your studies in the Bachelor of Pharmacy
program and also in your future career in pharmacy.
Description
For this assessment task, you will be asked to research and deliver an oral presentation about a topic
relevant to the history of pharmacy and/or medicines(Aspirin), however they will generally relate to a
key discovery in the history of pharmacy and/or medicines.
Task instructions
You will present a 10 minute presentation about your allocated topic. Your presentation should include:
• An overview of how the discovery was made and by who/whom.
• Information about the significance of the discovery at the time it was made. How was it used and
what impact did it have on the medical/pharmacy profession and the target population?
• Information about any harms associated with the discovery. Were there any associated side effects
or controversies at the time of the discovery?
• Details regarding any current controversies associated with this discovery.
• Two pre-prepared multiple choice questions for the class to answer.
Your presentation should be supported with Power Point slides
Marks will be awarded for how engaging your presentation is, so you are encouraged to use relevant
images and/or short videos to support your presentation and to let your creativity shine!
Referencing
It is expected that you will use a combination of internet-based and hard copy resources to find information
about your allocated topic. The content of your presentation should be referenced appropriately using the
APA referencing style and include a final reference list.

Grading criteria and weighting
You will be awarded a grade out of a maximum of 20 for this presentation, which will be scaled down to a
mark out of 15 as per the weighting of this assessment task. You will be marked according to three main
criteria, in line with the instructions for this task.
