2. Select and explain criteria for comparison
3. Compare the perspectives selected in #1, and discuss the individual and social dimensions of cultural difference.

This competence requires the submission of a 8 pg, (double-spaced) paper that expands on your own personal cultural orientations (as revealed in the results of your online, Cultural Orientations Indicator) with the general cultural orientations of U.S. American culture, according to Lewis’ research (2007) and the general orientations of two additional cultures selected from the list below.

Before submitting this assignment:
Address (sequentially) the ten questions below comparing the norms and orientations of your personal orientations with those of the two selected cultures, and to U.S. American norms and orientations.

Keep in mind that the cultural orientations characterized in the cultures you have chosen to examine are general cultural norms—they are not specific to everyone representing these various cultures.

Environment: How do the actions, behaviors, business practices and processes reflect a control, harmony, or constraint attitude?

Time: How are tasks/relationships handled? What are the implicit norms and values that guide behavior?

Action: How much value is placed on building and maintaining a relationship over accomplishing tasks and action items?

Communication: How do these individuals express themselves? What are the expectations for handling conflict?

Space: How much space do people want around them personally or at work? How does this affect the sharing of information?

Power: How acceptable are hierarchal relationships? How does the value of equality or hierarchy guide behavior, business practices and processes?
Individualism: How do these individuals define their identity? What is the implicit understanding of and perceived need to comply with rules, laws, processes and procedures?

Competitiveness: What values motivate individuals, the group or organization? How do behaviors, decisions and processes reflect this value?

Structure: What is the prevailing attitude towards ambiguity and uncertainty? How are these attitudes expressed in behavior, processes and practices?

Thinking: How do people perceive the value of and relationship between 1) concepts and abstract thinking and 2) data and experiences? How is that reflected in the way people argue and present information
