Music composition

Music 1 Syllabus: “For the purpose of the Higher School Certificate examination, the term ‘Composition’ applies to original works. The composition should be of a musically substantial nature and should reflect an understanding of the stylistic features of the topic that it represents. Students will also complete a short composition diary to explain some of their actions during the composition process”.

 

  1. Composition or Arrangement

Students must create an original piece of music or an arrangement of an existing piece of music. In the case of an arrangement there must be considerable original elements included in the work and substantial changes made throughout the piece. The work (original or arrangement) must be represented on paper using traditional notation, any markings on the score which are not widely used in the Western Musical Notation System must be clearly explained using a key.
