Read and follow the directions very carefully.  Select one of the following topics

•According to Goldsmith’s essay, “National Prejudices,” one of the men with whom he converses is a “pseudo-patriot.”  Using Goldsmith and at least one other essay from this semester’s assigned reading, write an essay which defines true patriotism and how it differs from the “pseudo-patriotism” against which Goldsmith warns.

•Orwell’s “Marrakech” depicts the bustling Moroccan city and its diverse population; however, he finds the “invisible” people the most interesting.  Using “Marrakech” and at least one other essay from this semester’s assigned readings, write an essay which argues that America is enhanced by the many cultures which inhabit it.
