Due by 2/11/18 before 11:59 pm. Writing Task Write an essay that investigates and another race and culture. Try to pick one as different as possible from you and yours. You thesis should state something affirmative about that race or culture. Be careful of wrongful stereotypes. However, you still have to have a purpose directed at a specific audience. Ideally, the essay will shed light on misunderstandings people have. Perhaps correct an inaccurate stereotype or put that stereotype in proper context. The overall purpose of this paper is to show your analysis and evaluation of a race and or culture different from your own. Think of the paper as a way to discuss assumptions and reality and misunderstandings between peoples; borrow from the various types of assumptions (GASCAP); the Toulmin system; STAR; logical fallacies; and other essential concepts and analytical tools. The paper is a way to put your thoughts in dialogue with others to evaluate assumptions and misunderstandings. You should present and develop your own “take” on this topic, and you should support that take with reflection and detail. State your judgment clearly and support your evaluation with persuasive points that could influence your reader to your way of thinking or at least have your reader see your viewpoint clearly. This essay involves working with at least three sources, so you should use quotation, paraphrase, or display of information from the selected article to MLA specifications (see Chapter 17 of Writing Arguments and you Hacker handbook, A Writer′s Reference). The essay should also provide a separate Works Cited page that provides accurate, properly formatted information about the article.
