The Glasgow science center tower project

You are required to write a 4,000 word REPORT that addresses the following:

What are the most significant reasons for Mega-Project failure and might such failures be avoided? ‘’The failure and success of “Glasgow Science Centre”.

Notes and guidance:

Particular attention should be paid to demonstrating an understanding of complexity as it relates to and impacts upon the management of such projects. You should use case studies to provide context and evidence for your argument.
There is a plethora of evidence about the topic, some of which I have provided for you, and it’s this evidence that will provide different perspectives on the issue. It’s your job to examine and analyse these perspectives, together with any others your research may turn up in the context of what you understand as Project Management Theory & Practice.

You MUST structure your analysis around the Project Management Institute (PMI) Knowledge Areas and demonstrate a thorough understanding of the key PROJECT MANAGEMENT issues raised by the topic, and also be able to synthesise these into key lessons that should be learned by those managing such projects in the future.

It’s important that you are critical rather than descriptive in your discussion. In academic terms, critical analysis means considering the claims of theorists, governments, authorities and so on, what they are based on, and how far they seem to apply or be relevant to your context.

In addition:
• To help you in your analysis, you should complete the ‘Assessment & Analysis’ tasks in each section of the “Glasgow Science Centre” construction project. This will help you formulate your final report.
• You must follow an essay format i.e. Introduction, Body and Conclusion

• Your discussion should draw upon project management theory and practice as well as, where appropriate wider theoretical concepts, for example communications theory and stakeholder theory. You should also focus on the most significant reasons for Mega-Project failure and if / how such failures might be avoided.

• You MUST provide AT LEAST ten (10) references. These sources must include at least ten (10) professional and other publications/internet sources.

Referencing Requirements:
Please use the Harvard system of referencing for referencing and citing any appropriate materials.
