Follow the guidelines below: I.    Thesis statement First paragraph    a.    First paragraph includes some general background info on the topic. b.    States a clearly defined argument or position (use the word “because”) c.    Located at end of concise intro paragraph. d.    Indicates type of evidence that will be used. EXAMPLE Thesis: The category of “sex offender” is unfair and hurts the individuals who are labelled as such because it is too broad & does not take the age or prior history of a defendant into account. II.    Body paragraphs    (Paragraphs 2 – 4)    a.    An “A” paper will have THREE different types of facts to prove the thesis statement. b. Begin with a clear and concise topic sentence that summarizes your main point in that paragraph. c.    The rest of that paragraph elaborates/ explains the topic sentence. d.    When the focuses changes, a new paragraph is created. EXAMPLE first topic sentence: The label “sex offender” is too broad and includes minor offences that are not distinguished from truly terrible sex crimes. III.    Conclusion: (Last Paragraph)    Draw on theories we learned in class to explain the ideas behind why your thesis is true.    Repeat your thesis statement. IV.    Style: Make sure that a.    Sentences are complete. b.    Sentences are grammatical and easy to understand. c.    No typos or misspellings. d.    No run-on paragraphs that change topics in the same paragraph. V.    Bibliography    a. An A paper will include at least THREE sources you found in doing research. Cite them in the paper with parentheses and in the end on your “Works Cited” page, where you give a full citation (Please ask any librarian if you don’t know how to write one). Works Cited page. Give in alphabetical order a list of the 2-3 articles you read and sites where charts are from. Provide full info (author, journal or magazine name, date, etc). MLAformat is preferred. Use Easy bib or other free, online engines that format the citation for you! NO Encyclopedias can be cited, please. You need to find work that actually lists the AUTHOR.
