We often identify our actions, whether good or bad, with ourselves, and insist that we should all take responsibility for what we do. Deeds, we say, entail consequences and reveal character. What do the Bhagavad Gita and Hamlet say about such a viewpoint?

In my essay, I want to highlight the concept of dharma. Both Arjuna and hamlet have this divine duty to bring justice to their kingdoms. Arjuna′s guide is Krishna, who tells him he must do his duty and Hamlets guide is the ghost of his father. The major difference between Hamlet and Arjuna is that hamlet fails to act. Hamlet should have acted as soon as he ascertained that murders and unjustly takes the throne but he wavers and then the entire kingdom falls into chaos and he suffers which is exactly what Krishna warns Arjuna will happen if he fails to do his duty.
